The starting point of the Alishan Forest Railway is Beimen Station in Chiayi City, so it is called the entrance to Alishan. In the early days, the timber transported down the mountain by the Alishan Forest Railway was gathered in Chiayi City, which promoted the prosperity of timber shops and timber processing factories around Beimen Station, forming a prosperous scene at the time and also driving the development of nearby businesses. The Japanese-style houses built in the surrounding area at that time were all made of cypress wood, which is a major feature of Japanese architecture and also a historical witness to the development of Alishan's forestry.
The operating scope of Hinoki Village is mainly the park area on both sides of Linsen East Road. The entire park covers an area of 3.4 hectares. The northern part is the area where the "Isshin-Niha-kan" is located today. In the early days, it was a dormitory complex for Japanese grassroots employees, while the southern area was the official residence for senior officials. After more than sixty years of restoration, Hinoki Town has been restored using traditional Japanese methods and as many raw materials as possible, and currently 29 wooden historical buildings have been preserved. After four years of renovation, the former splendor of Hinoki Village was finally restored. This is not only the earliest forestry village in Taiwan, but also the most complete and extensive Japanese-style official residence complex. The Municipal Historic Landmark Forestry Club was built around 1914 and was a leisure and entertainment venue for the Forestry Bureau of the Taiwan Governor's Office at the time. The architectural style imitates the 17th century British Tudor architecture in Europe, and the indoor area is about 75 square meters. It was used as the Forestry Bureau's auditorium in 1946, and was converted into Zhongxiao Kindergarten in 1948. In 1984, it was borrowed by the Chiayi County Investigation Station of the Ministry of Justice's Investigation Bureau for office use. It was returned in 1987 and later used as a dormitory for single employees of the Forestry Bureau. Today, it is listed as a historic site in Chiayi City, carrying the memory of forestry history.
"Mori Market", which was transformed from the One Heart Two Leaves Pavilion, cooperates with more than 100 brands and farmers' associations across Taiwan to provide high-quality products directly from the place of origin in the pavilion. It also cooperates with the agricultural and healthy living magazine Country Road, which has been in existence for more than 40 years, to find agricultural products that touch consumers' hearts from the wonderful stories of farmers. It will use the curatorial method to use the content of Country Road as the material for the exhibition. After consumers enter the One Heart Two Leaves Pavilion, they will first see the three-dimensional exhibition content of the magazine. This display method allows consumers to further resonate with agricultural products and create an experience of being touched by the land!
