Attractions

The Taichung Prison Martial Arts Drill Ground is located at No. 33, Linsen Road, West District, Taichung City. It was built in 1937 during the Japanese colonial period. It is a martial arts hall for prison officers and police officers to practice martial arts on a daily basis. It is the only remaining martial arts drill ground in the city, and its original historical appearance is well preserved, with great value for preservation, reuse and architectural research.

The martial arts arena complex includes the main building of the martial arts arena and the auxiliary buildings on the east side. The main building is built in a symmetrical style, with a shrine in the center and the judo field on the left and the kendo field on the right. There are seats on only one side of the martial arts arena. Compared with the similar building of the same period, the Wude Hall, it is a smaller martial arts facility. The building is a typical drill ground during the Japanese colonial period, with an elevated base, a facade imitating a wooden structure and pilasters, and a mother-style roof decorated with large ghost tiles and wind panels.
