Taichung City Hall was built in 1911 during the Japanese colonial period. It is a Western classical building, famous for its Tatsuno-style red and white brick walls. It is also the first reinforced concrete building in Taichung. It was originally the office of the Taichung Public Irrigation Association and the Taichung City Administrative Office. It was also used as the municipal archives, news room, and transportation bureau. It is a famous landmark and historical symbol of the city. It was announced as a historical building in the city in 2002.
